French Toast

4 eggs, slightly beaten (1 cup)
1 cup whole milk
Big pinch salt
Few drops vanilla, orange zest, and/or big pinch cinnamon (optional)
Butter, for greasing pan
8 slices challah, brioche, soft baguette or any bread (dried out bread is even better)
Powdered sugar and/or maple syrup, for serving.

1. Whisk the eggs, milk, salt, vanilla, orange zest, and/or cinnamon together in a medium bowl.
2. Heat a skillet over medium heat. When hot add 1 tablespoon of butter.
3. One at a time, place a bread slice in the egg mixture. When saturated, flip over and soak the other side, then place on the skillet and cook, without picking it up until it darkens. Flip the bread slice and toast the other side. Repeat with remaining egg mixture, butter, and bread. Serve with powdered sugar or maple syrup or both. Serves 4.
